Woman On Bridge Painting

Also called Painting Interrupted. The Spring session of my painting class was abruptly halted in March due to the pandemic. Never thought I would type the word “pandemic” as a way to describe what’s happening in my lifetime but there you go. Don’t have much more to say about it at this point. But on the frivolous side, I’m taking the opportunity to let my hair grow out to its natural color. What color is that? Not really sure! I haven’t seen my natural hair for almost 20 years. First indication is that it is not as dark brown as it used to be. It looks like I dumped dry shampoo on my head and never combed it out. I’m also trying a real, grown-up skin care routine with serums and everything! This is Day 2 so not much to report except a real, grown-up skin care routine is pricier than makeup wipes and a moisturizer.
Back to the painting: the first few classes I did a house portrait for my cousin of the abandoned, dilapidated house that sits out in field behind my dad’s place. He’s living on my grandparent’s farm that comes complete with barn, a big field with a pond, and a house that sits on a hill overlooking a dangerous curve of rural highway that is probably highly haunted by the ghosts of dogs who have perished there.
Here’s that old rundown house in the field:

So after I finished that and sent it off to my cousin (who was pleased with how it turned out-whew!), I began a new painting of a woman standing on a bridge, somewhere in Turkey. I had grabbed a bunch of pictures torn out of various travel mags and this is the one my teacher suggested I take on. He said the railing might be difficult but I thought that would be the easy part. Come to find out he was right. The railing was frustrating. Mostly because it came down to how precise did I want to get with it. How photo-like. Turns out, I’m ok with it not being mistaken for the magazine spread. I’m still feeling out my painting style as it is. I think for portraits and such I’m a just-shy-of-a-sharp-line gal. There will be brush strokes to be seen, I tell you.
Disclaimer: this is all subject to change as I continue to paint.
Anyway, here’s the lady hanging out on a random bridge in Turkey:

Stay at home, folks!
